Township Supervisor

The township supervisor is the chief executive officer of the township. The supervisor serves as supervisor of general assistance and chairman of the township board of trustees. The supervisor is a voting member of the township board. The supervisor has numerous financial reporting responsibilities, and is also treasurer of all township funds including the General Town Fund, General Assistance Fund, Park Maintenance Fund and Sanitary Sewer Fund. He is also ex officio treasurer of the Highway Road & Bridge Fund and the Permanent Road Fund.

The supervisor must keep just and true account of the receipts and expenditures of all moneys that come into the supervisor’s possession by virtue of the office in an accounting system provided for that purpose at the expense of the township.

Within 30 days before the annual town meeting the supervisor must prepare and file with the township clerk a full statement of the financial affairs of the township.

The supervisor is required to prepare an annual statement of receipts and disbursements. This statement is commonly known as the “Annual Treasurer’s Report”. There are a number of separate publishing and filing steps the supervisor must follow.
